What to do if you are not an expert
I have an important word of encouragement to all of my friends out there who have hesitated to create a product, promote a product, create content, or move forward because they are “not the expert”.
Stop it.
If you are letting “not being the expert” hinder you in ANY way this message is for you.
I’m going to be very honest - being seen as an expert, or even “the” expert is nice. It’s fun. It strokes the ego.
But it’s not necessary for success online.
What is necessary for success online?
Helping people.
The fact is that no one, and I mean no one, cares about you or your credentials or experience more than they care about themselves.
In other words, they care about WIIFM. That’s What’s In It For Me.
Not in a greedy way.
Not in a “I’m taking the last cookie” way.
WIIFM is much more primal. But that’s for another message.
For now, and I really hope you read what follows, I’m going to share how you can begin getting better results from all of your marketing starting right now.
2 - Digital Marketing That Converts
If you are not getting conversions (building your list, making sales, getting testimonials) do the following three steps and see what happens.
I’m going to give you the prompts to do this process in Section 3. For now, please read section two to set the context.
Use this with any AI you prefer.
Step 1 - Focus on your ideal buyer’s burning desire
The burning desire is the thing they wake up thinking about.
It’s universal to the human experience and sounds in your head something like this …
“ I need more leads!”
“ I have to lose 15 pounds as soon as possible”
“ We need an extra $500 to pay our bills and I don’t know where to get it”
“ I need to help my son in school but I don’t understand what he is studying”
Burning desires exist in every area of life - personal, business, faith, family, every area.
And they are the key to your success.
Use the prompt below to uncover them, then take step 2 …
Step 2 - Change your marketing to talk about their burning desires and how you and your offer can help them solve it
Not sure how to do that? Most people aren’t. Use the prompts in Section 3 to get the job done.
What you are doing here is to stop focusing on WHAT your offer does and instead focusing on what your offer does FOR THE BUYER.
To dial up the marketing power, make all of your marketing (lead magnets, sales letters, etc) focus on their burning desire.
Which leads us to step 3 …
3 - Talk openly in your marketing about their burning desire AND create a free report showing them how to solve it using your offer.
Change your marketing to talk about their burning desires. Start “selling the sizzle and not the steak”
If you want to add list building power to this, use AI (or your own experience) to create a high value lead magnet that talks only about them and then offers a link to the solution.
Read that again because this takes courage.
Create a lead magnet that talks ONLY about them and includes one link to your offer.
How can this possibly work?
It works because the person you want is the person who feels the need now.
They don’t have to be sold or convinced or cajoled. They just need to feel understood and know that there is a solution.
Now let’s prompt it out …
3 - How to profit from AI
Let’s prompt this out.
PROMPT TO UNCOVER THE BURNING DESIRE
My niche is [Insert Niche]. Act as a world-class market researcher and direct-response copywriter.
I need you to uncover my market's ultimate "burning desire." Please ignore surface-level wants and dig deep into their core psychology.
Tell me: What is the emotional, 2 AM problem they are desperate to solve, and what is the exact dream outcome they secretly crave more than anything else?
PROMPT TO CREATE CONTENT THAT SPEAKS TO THE BURNING DESIRE
Now that we know my market's core burning desire is [Insert Burning Desire] and their 2 AM problem is [Insert 2 AM Problem], I need to build a content engine that speaks directly to these emotions.
Act as an expert content strategist and empathetic copywriter. Generate 25 specific content ideas that prove I understand their exact situation and have a clear path forward.
Break the 25 ideas down like this:
10 Long-Form Pieces (For blog posts, newsletters, or videos). For each, give me a compelling title and a 2-sentence summary of the core lesson.
15 Short-Form Pieces (For social media, short emails, or quick text posts). For each, give me the opening hook and the main takeaway.
RULES FOR THIS CONTENT:
Always state the problem first, then offer the solution.
The tone must lift the reader up. Speak to them as a supportive peer, not a guru talking down from a pedestal.
Do not use condescending marketing tropes, hype, or phrases like "the secret they don't want you to know" or "what most people get wrong."
Focus heavily on empathy, clarity, and giving them a quick win.
THE LAST WORD
Here’s what to DO and to NOT do.
DO use the prompt and create new content immediately then put it everywhere you can. Your blog, Medium.com, Facebook, Reddit … everywhere.
DO NOT get lost in the process or overthink this. Do you need to change all of your marketing? Maybe. But let’s let results decide. So don’t obsess or spend hours on this.
You can run the prompts, have AI write a blog post and 10 social media posts in then next ten minutes.
